Local Producers
It’s very important to us to know where our food comes from, how the produce is grown, and how animals are raised, cared for, and slaughtered. By sourcing as many ingredients as possible from local producers, we have the pleasure of getting to know and developing relationships with the people who make, grow, and raise the foods we use to make our meals.
We are proud to support our local growers and producers. They bring us the flavors and variety of each season, and connect us to the land. We know from experience that locally produced food is fresher and more flavorful. In addition, buying local contributes to the economic success of our community. With less shipping and handling and fewer middlemen, more money goes directly to the local producer, and shorter shipping distances help conserve energy and greenhouse gases.
Enough said – here are some of the wonderful people who make our meals possible:
We used to buy our beef from Coleman™ Natural Beef, but they were bought by Meyer Beef in June and their product has been increasingly difficult to find. As a result we are currently looking for a smaller, local beef producer. Please feel free to contact us with suggestions.

Long Family Farms (www.longfamilyfarms.com)
- John Long maintains a manageable herd of six boars and about 35 sows – Durocs, Large Whites, and a breed of Landrace. The sows give birth to two litters a year, and except while nursing, the pigs live outdoors on an all-natural diet of wheat, millet and soybean meal that John mixes himself. That also means no antibiotics, growth promotents, preservatives and hormones and never any animal byproducts. To protect his pigs from transmissible diseases, he keeps a closed herd – all piglets are born to his own sows and boars, right on his farm. He slaughters on Monday (he only processes 10 pigs per week), and delivers our pork to us on Wednesday. John’s pork is the freshest and best we have ever had the pleasure of eating.
