From The Kitchen: October Menu

Our new October menu is out!

New vegetarian dishes include the color and flavorful Veggie Ragout, our Tofu Cashew Stir Fry with it's distinctly asian flavor, Crockpot Dijon With Sweet Potatoes, one of Toby's favorites, the Hazelnut & Brussels Sprouts Penne, and Black Beans And Rice With Corn Salsa.

In addition, the menu features the ever popular Balsamic Chicken, and the harvest inspired Turmeric Chicken with Beets. It also includes Asian Flank Steak With Wasabi, along with a customer favorite, the Coconut-Chili Rockfish with Caribbean Banana-Bean Paste.

Make sure to check out the Beef And Stout Stew - an amazing treat from our "Chef of the Month" Neal Fowley, a chef, farmer and sustainability advocate, and founder of the Kitchen Gardens Network.

Place your order by midnight on Tuesday for pick-up or delivery on Thursday or visit us at our kitchen (M-F 10-6:30, Sat 10-2) to pick your favorites from our freezer.

Recipe Idea: Cornbread With Fresh Corn
Nothing goes with soup or a hearty stew better than moist cornbread, especially when it’s made with fresh, locally grown corn.

Makes 6–8 servings:
1½ whole wheat pastry flower
1 cup yellow cornmeal
2–3 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon sea salt
¼ corn oil
2 tablespoons brown rice syrup
½ cup rice milk
½–1 cup water
½ cup fresh corn kernels

Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly oil and flower a 9-inch-square baking dish.
Stir together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder and salt into a bowl.
In another bowl whisk together oil, rice syrup, rice milk and ½ cup water.
Stir into dry ingredients until just blended. Add more water if needed to create a velvety, spoonable batter.
Gently fold in the corn and spoon batter into prepared pan and bake 35–40 minutes, until golden at the edges and the center springs back to the touch. "Guten Appetit!"

The Organic Dish Makes It Easier
A dear friend of ours recently passed away unexpectedly.

Instead of paying an incredible amount to have their small memorial catered, her family decided to use meals from The Organic Dish. They expected around 50 people and ordered five large meals. While Beckie had five crockpots going for one of their meal choices (Beef and Stout Stew), another friend volunteered to cook their other choice, Coconut Red Lentils (nearly always available even if not on the menu).

It worked out perfectly. No stress (at least about the meals), no mess, plenty of leftovers, and very affordable.

We miss and love you Carol Marie and the world is not the same without you in it!
