The Black Cat Experience

Last night Toby and I took advantage of the fixed price menu at Black Cat as part of First Bite Boulder.   It was absolutely delicious and we had the best seat in the whole house.

We sat across from one of the chefs (I assume the sous chef) – separated by a window where we could see all the action on the range.  At some point, the Chef probably felt like he was an animal in a cage at the Zoo as we just kept staring and then chatting with each other after staring at what he was prepping or cooking.

The menu is below.  We started off with a tiny piece of cheese on a very large plate (I felt bad for the dishwasher!) that tasted delicious and creamy and kinda like cheesecake.  The organic salad was fresh and  the Rosti and Pork Shoulder (we are huge fans of Pork) was super yummy.  We hardly ever eat dessert (talk to us sometime about our thoughts on dessert and sugar), but we thought it an appropriate time to endulge in a bit of dessert.  We ate all his “crumb cake” and we left very little of the very rich pudding.  The portion sizes were perfect (not too huge) and we left totally satisfied.

Toby and I got rid of store bought packaged (we acknowledge that our meals are somewhat “packaged”, but they are locally made and homemade packaged!) foods in our diet quite a while ago.  Except when his mother comes from Germany, she always brings us packaged Rosti, so this is our one packaged food exception.  Anyway, being big Pork and Rosti fans, we had an excellent dinner, which was also paired with 3 “shots” of wine.

All in all, we don’t eat out much because we prefer our own cooking and our meals from The Organic Dish, which we know are well thought out and not loaded with butter, sugar, fat, and salt.  BUT, what a wonderful treat!  We were completely aware that the owner and executive Chef Erik Skokan loves food and is passionate about local foods, quality foods, and his restaurant in general.  We were thrilled that we were able to enjoy a date night at Black Cat.

  1. I really want to go check that place out! Think they’ll know what I mean if I request a reservation for “The Organic Dish” table?

  2. I don’t think so – we got no pull! Better to request the “window” table by the range and kitchen. They should know exactly what you want… Really a brilliant seating area!
