Special Diets
Are you vegan or gluten intolerant? A nursing mom? Allergic to peppers or onions? We’ve got you covered. With advance notice we are able to accommodate a wide variety of special dietary needs, and substitutions are always free.
Our grains/starches (pasta, couscous, quinoa, rice, polenta, potatoes, bread) are interchangeable, so if you prefer one over the other, just let us know. All of our rice is whole grain, and we have whole grain pasta, couscous, and bread available on request.
If you have special dietary needs or concerns, please call us (1-800-408-5905) or contact us online or via email – we will work hard to find a solution that works for you.
Gluten Free
We can eliminate gluten from almost all of our meals. On our monthly menu each meal shows an icon that indicates whether it is gluten free
, can be made gluten free
, or whether it is one of the few dishes we cannot make gluten free
.
For our pasta dishes we can substitute rice pasta or buckwheat pasta, and for dishes containing couscous we can substitute rice or quinoa. We only use tamari (gluten free) soy sauce, and gluten free tempeh.
Cassein Free
We can also eliminate cassein/dairy products from many of our meals. We generally prefer to use extra virgin olive oil instead of butter, and any dishes containing cow’s milk or yogurt can be changed to soy or rice milk and yogurt. We do not (yet) offer any cassein free cheese alternatives, so avoid any meals with cheese in the ingredient list, or just ask us to leave it out. Any meals with a cheese garnish have the cheese on the side in a separate compostable container, so it’s possible for non cassein intolerant family members to enjoy it!
New Moms
Many new moms who are breast feeding prefer to avoid certain foods like onions, garlic, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and citrus fruit. If that’s you, we can help. While Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and citrus fruit are easiest to omit by choosing from the many recipes each month that don’t contain any of them, we are happy to make your meals with no (or very few – you decide) onions, garlic and other "gassy" ingredients.
